To fund the Worldcoin project

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has raised $115 million in a Series C funding round.

Blockchain Capital led the fundraising process for the Altman-founded cryptocurrency project.

It bears the same name as Worldcoin, and its goal is to distribute cryptocurrency tokens across the world, whereby one token is offered to each individual only once. This type relies on the use of a special device to scan the iris of the eye for the identity of the people, and then they are given free encrypted writing.

Also, the expected value of a project of this kind cannot be clearly determined at the present time, and there may be a project related to it, but due to its connection to collecting eye prints, there are many uncertainties surrounding it.

The Worldcoin project has previously come under fire for potential privacy risks. Notorious former CIA leaker Edward Snowden responded to Altman's tweet announcing the project with the comment: "Don't dig into human souls."

This project also comes within the framework of the efforts of the digital assets field to recover after the challenges it faced since 2022 when many cryptocurrency projects witnessed collapse, especially the collapse and bankruptcy of the digital currency exchange FTX.

  • In addition, a group of investors, such as a16z Crypto, Capital Crypto, and Distributed Global, participated in the financing and fundraising process for the project.
  • It should be noted that the crypto tokens associated with this project will not be made available to US citizens nor to citizens of other countries according to the official website of the Worldcoin project.
  • Altman's project is expected to return to the center of controversy once again, especially after OpenAI, the company that developed the ChatGPT conversational model came to global attention after revealing its AI technology.
  • Altman has also appeared before the US Senate to answer questions about this technology.
