Google is working on a way for devices to function when Airplane mode is on.
Devices can now recognize users inside an aircraft and instantly switch to flight mode thanks to new technologies.
The invention allows devices to connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks even though such networks are typically inactive when flight mode is engaged.
The latest technology may also modify the settings of the Wi-Fi connection to make it acceptable and to the specifications and quality of the aircraft.
The connection may be automatically canceled based on several pieces of information, including the quality of the connection, so Google will pay special attention to reducing battery usage.
Some background functions on the device will halt when Airplane mode is activated, and automatic backups and upgrades won't work.
The device will be able to automatically locate the user on board the aircraft using a variety of data, including pressure drop, ultrasound signals, the aircraft's Wifi signal, the user's booking and flight activities, and other data, according to the patent filing.
When the plane lands safely, the phone returns to normal operation, flight mode is canceled, the lost connection is fixed, and apps start working normally again.
Since it is still being developed by Google, it is now unknown when this technology will be introduced in Android.
