Introducing a suite of parental controls by Meta.

Meta

Meta announced a set of tools

The major tech company announced in a blog post that the new features help parents see how much time their kids spend using messaging apps and how many contacts their teens have with those they follow on Instagram or whom they follow.

According to the company, parents and guardians can now use Family Center to view their children's Messenger contact list and adjust their privacy and security settings.

If a teen enables this setting, the Meta states that parents will be notified if their child reports someone on the app. Parents will be able to see who their children can and cannot communicate with.

Parents should expect similar upgrades on the Instagram platform, such as a new option to view who their kids are following as well as how many friends they have with them.

Parents can use this monitor on their teen's interactions with strangers.

According to Meta, kids who block someone now get a message advising them to let a parent manage their account.

Meta is testing additional security measures for its Instagram messaging platform. A user must first request permission to contact someone have yet to follow in the app before sending them a message.

Meta is piloting a new Instagram notification that warns teens not to watch videos after dark.

With growing concerns about the impact of social media sites like Facebook and Instagram on teens, Meta has been developing more powerful parental controls and security features for its suite of apps.

Among these functions are Instagram's silent mode, warnings that lead children away from material they frequently read on the service, and safeguards for teens in direct messages against adults.
