OpenAI discontinues AI Text Classifier

OpenAI

AI Text Classifier is no longer available

The AI Text Classifier tool from OpenAI, which was introduced earlier this year, has been made inoperable.  A new tool that tries to analyze messages and identify whether AI tools like ChatGPT have generated them has just been released by the startup, which gained notoriety after introducing its chatbot ChatGPT on January 31.

According to OpenAI, the AI text classifier is a precisely calibrated GPT model that can determine whether a piece of text was created by the AI.

The popular chatbot ChatGPT, which could write book reports, and essays, and even contribute to programming projects, was prohibited by several institutions and schools, prompting the creation of the new tool.

The program appears to be unable to fulfill the intended purpose since OpenAI said in a blog post that as of July 20, 2023, the AI text classifier is no longer usable due to its poor accuracy.

The company said that it is committed to creating and publishing systems that allow people to verify whether or not the technology has generated audio or visual content, and that it is presently working to integrate input and look for more effective techniques to identify the source of messages.

It should be noted that OpenAI previously acknowledged that its classifier was not thought to be entirely trustworthy.
