Data from 760,000 users on Discord.io was taken.
The personalized advocacy service Discord.io has made the decision to suspend operations after suffering a data breach that compromised the data of roughly 760,000 users.
Discord.io is a third-party service that enables server owners in Discord to design unique invites for their channels; it is not an official website of the well-known chat service Discord.
On the brand-new hacking forums Breached, someone going by the name of (last or last) Akhirah started selling his Discord.io database yesterday. The threat actor uploaded four user records from the database as proof of the theft.
For those who are unfamiliar, the new Breached forums are a revival of a well-known cybercrime forum renowned for selling and disclosing data obtained through data breaches.
A member's username, email address, billing address, password, and Discord ID were among the most sensitive data exposed in the breach, according to the threat actor who claimed that the database had information for roughly 760,000 Discord.io users.
Discord.io provided the following statement in response to the disclosure of Discord identifiers: "This information is not confidential and anyone who shares a server with you can acquire it. However, if it was compromised, others could be able to link your Discord account to a specific email address.
Discord.io announced via its Discord service that there had been a data breach. The process of ceasing all operations for the foreseeable future is currently underway.
"Please refer to our hack notification channel for more information," she continued. A copy of this letter will shortly be added to our website.
According to a timeline provided by Discord.io, they were made aware of the data compromise after reading a forum post about it.
They quickly established the validity of the stolen information and started terminating all paid memberships and services.
According to Discord.io, the hacker who committed the breach contacted them but withheld any details on how it happened.
However, BleepingComputer claims that it has not yet spoken to the service's owners despite calling the provider of the Discord.io database.
Visitors can use this and Discord.io as a directory to find Discord servers that offer certain content and receive invitations to join them. In some circumstances, accessing an invite necessitates purchasing and using Discord.io Coins.
