Identity verification in the X platform.

X platform.

Soon, X will include identification verification.

A few months after a wave of impersonation briefly put a stop to the company's paid verification plans, it appears that the X platform is creating additional identity verification tools.

According to pictures posted by researcher Nima Oji, the platform is now working on an extra verification feature that needs users to submit a copy of their government-issued ID card and take a selfie.

Augie spotted an identity-verification badge earlier this month through Elon Musk's account, and now he's created an in-app message explaining how the feature works, indicating an official rollout is soon to follow.

"Verify your account by presenting a government-issued ID," the message instructs. It is stated that consumers must submit a photo of their ID and a photo during the procedure, which normally takes around 5 minutes.

For this feature, it appears that X has collaborated with the independent hobby verification business Au10tix. According to the description, Au10tix Plus EXE sees the information needed for verification.

X employs identity photographs and biometric data for safety and security purposes, such as preventing impersonation, and keeps both for up to 30 days.

According to Au10tix's website, the verification procedure takes 8 seconds, is partially automated, and is the only technology of its type to find fake fraud patterns all over the world. The business has already collaborated with businesses including Google, PayPal, and Uber.

The function shows that X, which presently provides a verification badge to anyone who pays for an X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) subscription, is searching for fresh approaches to prevent impersonation across the network.

Although it has added some protections, such as the Verified Institutions feature, the corporation does not conduct identification checks.

Some impersonators do, however, nonetheless manage to get away. Scammers have also taken advantage of verification, notably cryptocurrency scammers, who use the increased visibility provided by an X Premium subscription to boost their postings.

These problems may not be resolved by adding optional identification checks, although they might make some scammers and impersonators a little easier to recognize.
