Hackers managed to hack the email of the US ambassador

Nicholas Burns, the US ambassador to China, had his email account compromised by hackers during an espionage operation.

Additionally, they were successful in breaking into Daniel Kreitenbrink's account, which Microsoft previously revealed. He is the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs

Despite Reuters's request for information regarding the incident, the US State Department refused and stated that the probe was still ongoing.

When asked about US strategy toward China during a congressional hearing before The Wall Street Journal's report was released, Daniel Kreitenbrink did not rule out the potential that his or his team's emails had been stolen.

Senior diplomats in Washington warned their Chinese counterparts when Nicholas Burns and Daniel Kreitenbrink joined US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo as the only reported victims of this surveillance operation.

Microsoft and US national security officials claimed that Chinese intelligence had been successful in accessing the email accounts of the corporation, which are used by more than two dozen government organizations in the US and Western European nations.

A higher level of free digital monitoring for its users was demanded by administrators and lawmakers as a result of the incident, which prompted Microsoft to evaluate its digital security procedures.

Microsoft said in a statement on Friday that it acknowledges the criticism thrown against it.
