Artificial intelligence companies meet to determine the future shape of the technology

On Wednesday, a new group was established by four top artificial intelligence businesses to discover optimum safety procedures and improve the use of technology to address significant societal concerns. The association highlights how crucial it is for the industry to keep an eye on itself so that regulators can enact new laws.

The new border model forum, which is comprised of Google, Microsoft, Openai, and Anthropic, seeks to accomplish four key objectives. The first objective is to improve border model development responsibly, advance AI safety research, lower risks, and enable independent and unified assessments of capabilities and safety.

The second objective attempts to outline the finest development methods, disseminate border models, and assist the general public in comprehending the nature of technology, its capabilities, borders, and impacts.

The third objective is to collaborate with decision-makers, academics, civic society, and businesses to foster cognitive discussion on the dangers of trust and safety.

Supporting the development of applications that help in addressing the most important social concerns, such as processing and adapting climate change with them, and early detection of cancer, and Internet threats, is the fourth purpose.

To join the forum, companies must meet several requirements, including creating or publishing border models and the possibility of exceeding the current advanced capabilities of models to carry out a set of jobs. She must also demonstrate her safety dedication through institutional and technical means.

In the following months, the group plans to establish an advisory board made up of professionals with a variety of experiences to help it choose its goals. It will also work with civil society organizations to develop and fund governance.

This effort also comes at a time when policymakers are working to define the future of technology, trying not to stifle innovation while preserving the role of governments in the development of artificial intelligence, after the launch of ChatGPT chatbot by OpenAI earlier last year.
