Microsoft is looking into why the Windows system crashed following recent updates.
Microsoft has started looking into the "blue screen of death" issue that appears with a warning indicating CPU incompatibility in Windows 10 and 11.
Users who experienced the issue reported that it started after recent updates, despite the fact that the system was installed on machines with compatible processors.
When an operating system encounters a problem, the Blue Screen of Death, often known as BSOD, with the message "UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR" signifying processor incompatibility, appears.
Microsoft acknowledged the problem and invited people to report it via the Feedback Hub app.
Microsoft claimed that after applying the August-released KB5029331 and KB5029351 fixes and rebooting the affected devices, reports of the issue started to reach it.
Microsoft made an attempt to fix the issue by uninstalling the KB5029331 update to make Windows boot as it should.
According to user comments in Microsoft's feedback tool, the issue primarily affects MSI motherboards that support Intel 600 and 700 series processors, while it affects motherboards from other manufacturers like Asus and Gigabyte somewhat less frequently.
GIGABYTE suggested users downgrade their BIOS and uninstall updates KB5029351 for Windows 11 and KB5029331 for Windows 10 to temporarily fix the problem.
Microsoft has not yet identified the root causes of the issue that caused the recent updates to Windows to crash.
